Theatre Educator Resources for Classrooms and Advocacy
“In a democracy like ours, everyone deserves to experience the arts. No child should need a permission slip to dream.
Art is not a privilege. Art is the soul of our civilization, the beating heart of our humanity, a miracle to which we should all bear witness, over and over again, in every home.”
– from a lecture given by Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation
Theatre transforms lives, and all children should have access to theatre education. Towards these ends and over many years, NYSTEA has succeeded in requiring Theatre Teacher Certification, helped create the certification exams, compelled the addition of performance credits for graduation, and more.
NYSTEA continues to be the primary Theatre Education advocacy organization in New York State, working in alliance with other arts educations and helping to write the new State Education Standards for Theatre.
