Workshops

Andy Hughes is a Syracuse local theater designer who focuses mainly on lights and sound. His credits include Covey's Into the Woods (light designer), Breadcrumbs Productions' The Game of Life (production designer), and Baldwinsville Theatre Arts Program's Hadestown: Teen Edition (light/sound designer). In addition to his freelance work, Andy is also the Auditorium Manager for Baldwinsville Central School District, where he schedules and runs events, assists in teaching tech theater classes, and maintains the equipment of the venue.

Steve LaPorte has worked for Syracuse Scenery and Stage Lighting for more than 20 years. Regarded as an expert in his field, Steve consults with school districts, colleges & universities, and theatre companies across the area. Still active as a lighting designer, Steve has been nominated for several Syracuse Area Live Theatre (SALT) Awards, and is sought after across the region.

​Rochele Royster, Ph.D, ATR-BC is an assistant professor of art therapy in the Department of Creative Arts Therapy.

Prior to joining Syracuse University, Royster was a learning behavior specialist in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and lecturer in the Department of Art Therapy and Counseling at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Depaul University (Department of Education), and Adler University (clinical psychology department doctoral program). 

Royster has worked for the last 20 years integrating art therapy into the educational setting and has worked with youth, adolescents and young adults with various learning differences such as autism, traumatic brain disorders and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Using a trans-disciplinary approach, she is interested in community and school-based art therapy; race, power and policy in education; multi-sensory methods in reading and literacy; trauma-informed classrooms; environmental justice; black disability; and special education as it relates to decolonization of pedagogy and practice in institutional and public settings.

Royster’s dissertation developed as a grassroots approach to arts-based social change and addresses gun violence, death and grief through memorials of resistance. She assisted in creating transformative art-based social justice curriculum for Cities of Peace/Jane Addams Hull House, the Teacher Institute/Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Office of Arts and Education at CPS. She has conducted workshop series for Chicago Park District teaching artists. She has also worked with sexual, domestic violence and human trafficking survivors and Cambodian youth refugees.

In 2017, Royster completed a Ph.D. in community psychology at National Louis University in Chicago and also holds master’s degrees in special education (2000) from Virginia State University and art therapy (2002) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as well as a B.F.A. in studio arts (1998) from Virginia State University. Royster serves on the steering committee of Psychologists for Social Responsibility and is a board director for the American Art Therapy Association.
Ceara Windhausen is the Education Coordinator of the Baldwinsville Theatre Guild and has been directing and choreographing youth theatre for the past 15 years. Some of her favorite Directorial/Choreography credits include, The Spongebob Musical, The Lightning Thief and Newsies! On Stage she is a SALT-AWARD Winning Actor with such roles as Alice Murphy in BRIGHT STAR and Schwartzy in 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE.  She is also a regular on the stage at Redhouse Arts Center in Syracuse, mostly recently in GODSPELL and as Francesca Johnson in THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY. She is currently originating a role in the new Qui Nguyen play "The Slasherland Project". Her day job consists of teaching the next generation of music students as the Choral and General Music Teacher at Oswego Middle School.  At home she is a proud dog-mom to Teddy and enjoys running marathons.

Danyon Davis   
Assistant Professor Specializing in Movement
Department of Drama, College of Visual and Performing Arts - Syracuse University

Professor Davis is the former Director of the MFA Program at American Conservatory Theater; also former Head of Movement at A.C.T. and Stella Adler Studio of Acting; and former Assistant to Juilliard School Drama Division founding faculty member, Moni Yakim. Professor Davis has adapted Mr. Yakim’s approach while serving as a faculty member at the Neighborhood Playhouse, Circle in the Square Theatre School, and HB Studio's Hagen Core Training Program. Professor Davis has performed in classical, contemporary, and experimental plays throughout the U.S. and Europe. He has taught movement in many workshop and coaching settings, including arts-in-education programs in schools throughout New York City, the India National School of Drama in Delhi, Colgate University, Syracuse Stage, and the Dramatists Guild;  as well as workshop intensives with the Bill Reed Voice Studio, Middlebury College, and the Public Theater.
Dani Ryan (she/her)
Vice President, Peaceful Schools

Dani is a theatre educator and performer who has spent over two decades blending the worlds of arts and education to support student growth in meaningful ways. A 1998 graduate of SUNY Oswego with a degree in Communications and Theatre, Dani began her career in children’s theatre education, soon realizing it as a powerful and necessary tool to build social-emotional skills, empathy, and confidence in young people. Since joining Peaceful Schools in 2001, Dani has had the opportunity to work with thousands of students and educators across New York State and has led teams of educators in bringing arts-infused SEL programming to schools across the region. As a member of Peaceful Schools’ Training and Development team, she designs and facilitates professional development that helps educators use their unique talents to foster social-emotional health in youth.

Natasia Lee White (They/them)
Director of Enrichment, Peaceful Schools

Natasia is a musician, actor, playwright, and educator currently located in Syracuse, NY. Some of their favorite past performing roles include Amy in "Company", Judas in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and Marcy Park in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee". This will be Natasia's 11th year with the Peaceful Schools Enrichment program, having taken on the role of Instructor, then Manager, and now Director of Enrichment Programming. You can also catch Natasia writing songs for and performing with local band Honey For The Bees!
